Who We Are

A Reformed Church,
a Revived People

Aviva Church was born of the conviction that sound doctrine and the moving of the Holy Spirit are not adversaries — they are inseparable allies in the mission of God. We are a Reformed and charismatic community, rooted in the Scriptures and open to the sovereign breath of the Spirit.

With our main campus in Brussels and congregations in Namur, Luxembourg and Antwerp, we gather people of many nations under one gospel, one faith and one Lord. Here, the theology of the Reformers meets the fervor of the revivals — and the lamp we carry is the symbol of that flame which never goes out.

Our identity is set down in our Confession of Faith: thirteen chapters of doctrinal convictions that guide the life, worship and mission of the church in all its campuses.

"This Confession itself has no doctrinal authority, for only the Holy Bible is inerrant and is the Word of God. The function of this Confession, like any other, is to elucidate theological themes and to aid in the understanding of the Scriptures." — Chapter IX, Tradition.

Distinctives

What Defines Us

Our theological worldview is inherited from the Reformation, confirmed by the church fathers and anchored in the Scriptures.

Soteriology

Doctrines of Grace (TULIP)

Total Depravity, Unconditional Election, Limited Atonement, Irresistible Grace and Perseverance of the Saints. Salvation is the sovereign work of God from beginning to end.

Hermeneutics

Progressive Covenantalism

Uma única aliança de graça que se desdobra progressivamente — do Éden a Noé, de Abraão a Israel, de Davi a Cristo — revelando a história redentora como narrativa coerente.

Escatologia

Amillennialism & Post-Tribulationism

The millennium is the spiritual reign of Christ inaugurated at His ascension. The Church will pass through the great tribulation before the single, visible and glorious return of the Lord.

Apocalyptic

Cyclical Interpretation

We follow the patristic reading of Victorinus of Pettau (†304 AD), the earliest commentator on Revelation: recapitulating cycles, not a linear chronological sequence.

Pneumatology

Moderate Continuationism

The gifts of the Holy Spirit — prophecy, tongues, healing, discernment — operate today for the building up of the Church, always under the sovereign rule of the Word. The Spirit never contradicts Scripture.

Ecclesiology

Credobaptism

Baptism by immersion of those who believe and profess faith in Christ, as the visible sign of union with the Lord in His death and resurrection.

Our Story

From a Lamp,
a Revival

Aviva Church was born in the heart of Europe, in Brussels, as a prophetic call to gather Brazilians, Portuguese, Africans and Europeans around the Word of God. What began as a small group in a single room has become a vibrant community spread across four cities.

Under the leadership of Pastor Elias Barbosa, the church carries the lamp as the living symbol of its mission — a reminder that the light of the Gospel, kindled by the apostles and rekindled by the Reformers, still burns and gives light to those who walk in the darkness of post-Christian Europe.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Psalm 119:105
